Transition roadmap ignores Māori at bottom

South Taranaki Iwi Ngāti Ruanui is questioning the draft Taranaki 2050 Roadmap which spells out what is needed for a so called just transition to a low-emissions economy.
The draft was released at today’s Just Transition Summit in New Plymouth.
Rūnanga chief executive Debbie Ngarewa-Packer says the roadmap assumes all in Taranaki are enjoying a great middle-class life style.
She says people living in poverty in high disparity have a different view.
No workshops on the draft were held south of Hāwera, and Pātea and Waverley seem to have been forgotten.
She says the ideals articulated seem hollow when compared with the region’s responses to Māori wards, local government exclusions and significant, under-employment and education achievement rates for Māori.
