Swamp kauri unearthed during excavations for a giant furniture and homewares store in Henderson have been given to Te Wānanga o Aotearoa for the use of its carving school on the Māngere campus.

Nido managing director Vinod Kumar says more than 20 logs up to 7 metres long were found about 4 metres down and were in exceptional condition.

Assistant site manager Lisa Wade from Kahungunu, Rongowhakaata and Te Aitanga a Māhaki, who recognised the significance of the find, says the trees appear to have been blown over in a storm and were facing the same direction.
