Man Up recruiting tool for Destiny
The chair of Suicide Prevention Australia says there is no evidence Destiny Church’s Man Up programme is effective at reducing violence, suicide or other social ills.
Matthew Tukaki, who also chairs the Auckland District Māori Council, has slammed church head Brian Tamaki’s Twitter threats that if the programme is not allowed into prisons there will be riots.
He says the programme also runs in Western Australia and Queenland, but it turned down offers to go through Suicide Prevention Australia’s rigorous evaluation programme.
"It has no substance. It is nothing more than a recruitment programme for the Destiny church, so let's call it how it is, and it preys on the most vulnerable in our community, and I find that to be despicable and evil and all these claims he's making on Twitter, and all these emails they're releasing on Twitter, that doesn't tell me there is any evidence behind anything that he does," Mr Tukaki says.
He says Brian Tamaki should be arrested and tried for inciting violence to promote his violence prevention programme.
