The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists has appointed Māori mental health advocate Moe Milne as its kaumatua.

New Zealand committee chair Dr Mark Lawrence says she will work alongside the organisation’s existing kaumatua, Wi Keelan, to help guide the college’s efforts to reduce health inequities and improve Māori recruitment into the psychiatry workforce.

She will also offer pastoral care to Māori trainees and consultants.

Ms Milne has been a leader in Māori mental health for many years and led the development of the takarangi cultural competence framework for mental health training.
