Collins calls for cancer action
National MP Judith Collins says the Government should tell Pharmac to provide two drugs which can extend the lives of women with metastatic breast cancer.
A group of women with the disease, the so called metavivors, have petitioned the health select committee for an inquiry into the government’s drug buying agency over its failure to fund Ibance and Kadcyla.
Ms Collins says while the major parties are usually hands off when it comes to Pharmac, the incoming National Government took action in 2008 over another breast cancer drug.
"What we did on Herceptin was the right thing to do. I just think even though we have this policy of not interfering, every now and then we should interfere, and maybe this is one of them," she says.
