Whānau ora challenge to status quo
The Minister for Whānau Ora, Peeni Henare, has told government agencies it’s time they dropped their objections and embraced the kaupapa as an effective way to deliver services to their clients.
Te Puni Kōkiri hosted a summit on Monday where whānau ora commissioning agencies, providers and client whānau explained how the integrated service delivery model was working to change lives.
It came after a review found whānau ora was effective, but there was deep resistance from many mainstream government agencies.
Mr Henare says he took the opportunity to take a shot across their bows.
"I told them Te Puni Kōkiri and my office, as well as the commissioning agencies are ready to engage with them now, to leave their egos at the door, and to start looking at new, well they're not new to us, approaches that will challenge what their status quo is," he says.
Some agencies have told him they would need to change some of their policy settings before they can come on board.
