Red tape tripping up whānau dreams

The head of the largest Māori bureaucracy says cutting down on red tape is still a challenge for people trying to implement Whānau Ora initiatives.
Te Puni Kōkiri hosted a hui in Wellington this week to allow staff, other government agencies, and Whānau Ora providers and othrs to learn about its vision of whānau development.
Michelle Hippolite says philanthropic and community organisations shared their experiences of trying to break down government barriers.
"So they were saying on the ground they can work well with whanau but when they go to talk and engage with government, it seems you have to get through layers and layers of what they call bureaucracy and while we in government are trying to bring down bureaucracy, it's clear there is still a long way to go," she says.
