Kōkiri trust vision for Taumarunui eyesore
Taumarunui Community Kōkiri Trust has used Ruapehu District Council’s abandoned land sale process to buy a derelict apartment building in the town which it intends to demolish and replace with new community housing.
Funding for the projects comes from a $2 million Te Puni Kōkiri whānau and community development investment programme for Taumarunui and Te Kuiti.
Chief executive Christine Brears says the six new transitional housing units are seen as a way to support whānau into living better lives and potential home ownership.
As part of their tenancy all families will have a full assessment under the whānau ora model of care..
