Missing mentor remembered as judge sworn in
A special day at Tuakau today, where lawyer Terena Wara was sworn in as a judge of the Māori Land Court.
She has practised law in Rotorua since 2006, starting with East Brewster before moving to Rangitauira & Co and then setting up Tu Pono legal in 2014 with her partner Jason Pou to specialise in resolving Māori legal issues.
Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick says Ms Wara was a friend of her and her late husband, inaugural Māori Law Society president John Chadwick, and the recipient of a research scholarship Te Hunga Roia Māori created in his name.
"John loved young lawyers and awhiing them through their careers, a lot of supervision and a lot of guidance. John would have loved to be here today to see this acknowledgement of her success and Rotorua’s very proud of her too," she says.
