Song to inspire action on drugs
There’s a new call to arms for people to take up the fight against drugs, family violence and child abuse.
Caii-Michelle Baker launched her song Now is the Time at Waitangi this week at a free concert hosted by the Ngāti Rāhiri Māori Committee.
She says it was inspired by the work of her mother, Gisborne identity Ann Gordon, in helping children who had been through sexual and family abuse.
She says the song can be an anthem for whānau, communities and schools who want to tackle their problems.
"I had a lady say to me this morning: 'Caii-Michelle, I woke up this morning, I had a huge problem with the whānau and that area, and all I could think about was Now is the Time and it inspired me to get out of bed and to keep going and to come up with a solution,'" she says.
Caii-Michelle Baker says it’s all very well having conferences and hui attended by a few hundred people, but a song can reach homes and hearts and kids’ phones.
