Te Roopu tackling violence in failed system


The Under-Secretary to the Minister of Justice on Domestic and Sexual Violence Issues says a new Māori advisory group marks significant change to the way government works with Māori.
Jan Logie says the interim group, which held its first meeting today, brings together a wide range of expertise from across the motu.
It will work in partnership with government Ministers and the joint venture on family violence and sexual violence to develop a national strategy and action plan.
Te Roopu chair Prue Kapua says statistics show the system has failed, and her group will work to incorporate Māori focused solutions and aspirations for reducing sexual violence and violence within whānau.
Other members include Roni Albert, Ngaropi Cameron, Ange Chaney, Paora Crawford Moyle, Te Owai Gemmell, Roku Mihinui, Susan Ngawati Osborne, Russell Smith and Tā Mark Solomon.
