Service a privilege says new Dame

From state ward to telephone tolls, kia ora, to senior advisor to government ministers to kahurangi, it’s been a long journey for Māoridom’s newest Dame.
The honour was bestowed on Dame Rangimarie Naida Glavish at Ōrākei Marae on Saturday by Governor General Dame Patsy Reddy, witnessed by her large whanau, a few hundred guests from Ngāti Whātua and other iwi, and a large group of wahine toa who sat around her on the māhou.
There were also many supporters from the various organisations she has worked with, especially in the health sector where she has championed the inclusion of Māori values into mainstream practice.
She says she wore her honours as a reminder of the privilege it was to be of service.
