Life experiences help whānau ora navigators

FULL INTERVIEW WITH PARRIS GREENING CLICK HERE
Kaiarahi from Auckland’s six whānau ora providers came together yesterday for training and to consider what they have learned about integrated service delivery to whānau.
Parris Greening, the service delivery manager for Te Kupenga Hauora, says everyone is passionate about the whānau-centred approach.
He says whānau in strife may know what to do but struggle to implement it, or they have to deal with conditions imposed on them by police or other government agencies.
"In the whānau ora space we are trying to unlock where do you want to go? What do you want to do? How can we help you get there? Have you tried this? Let's try this together. I will help you do this, let's do it together, so we are not leaving them alone to do it by themselves but we are guiding them like a kaiārahi, like a true navigator." he says.
Mr Greening says what sets whānau ora apart is the life experiences kaiārahi have that give empathy and knowledge they can share with whānau.
