Māori input added to public broadcast review
The Ministerial Advisory Group on Public Media has been strengthened with the addition of broadcaster Stacey Morrison and communications consultant Sarona Ai’ono-Iosefa.
The four-member panel appointed by previous minister Clare Curran did not include any Māori or Pasifika representation.
Broadcasting and Communications and Digital Media Hon Kris Faafoi says the Advisory Group has proven a useful source of independent expert advice, but he now wants it to provide advice on how Māori and Pacific People’s language, culture and perspective can be better represented across publicly funded media.
It has also been asked to focus on collaboration between agencies and to provide advice on funding of public media in Budget 2019.
