Wellspring of creativity in Rotorua at Tiki Āhua
Some of the best Māori fashion and design was on display at Te Puia in Rotorua over the weekend at the annual Tiki Āhua extravaganza.
This year’s theme is Kura Mōwai – sacred waters – which tā moko artist Arakatera (Katz) Maihi says is a great metaphor for the creative process.
"Sacred waters is where creation takes place for us as humans, so we are celebrating the human form, we're celebrating the different ideas and all those artists coming together so it is like that fluidity of whakaaro, fluidity of the art form itself," he says.
The runway show was followed by a concert headlined by a new band featuring the Kora brothers and Katchafire members, L.A.B.
