A Māori agency has been asked to provide models for an American designer showing at the Parish Fashion Week.
Monita Skipworth from Ataahua Models says the invitation from Washington DC and Virginia-based designer Monica Jones came through a connection made at the San Francisco Fashion Community Week.
Ms Jones started her label NanaLola Couture after being diagnosed with a rare neuromuscular disease, and has broken away from the traditional mould in presenting her creations.
Ms Skipworth says she wants the models to wear moko kauae to highlight her designs.
"Her designs are long and lowy and I think the section she is walking in is the couture section for evening gowns. It will be a cool opportunity to get exposure for our culture on a world stage," she says.
Ataahua is raising funds to help cover some of the costs of the trip to France.
