Nurses weigh up future

Nurses are looking at how their role needs to change to meet future needs.
The NZ Nurses Organisation held its annual conference in Wellington yesterday.
Kaiwhakahaere Kerri Nuku says the health profession is changing rapidly, and it’s vital groups such as Maori are not left behind.
" Vulnerable communities are always the ones that get left behind. We must refocus our needs and how does nursing respond to fixing that and what will the nurse in the future look like," she says.
Kerri Nuku says nurses are also focusing on barriers to communicating with whanau, such as the language used in health.
