Sixth talk brings Ngāpuhi deal closer

Good vibes is how one of the participants is describing the latest attempt to resolve the impasse over Ngāpuhi's treaty settlement negotiations.
Te Kotahitanga co-chairs Rudy Taylor and Pita Tipene along with Hone Sadler and Sonny Tau from mandated negotiating body Tūhoronuku held their sixth with Treaty Settlements Negotiations Minister Andrew Little on Saturday.
Mr Taylor says the sticking points have been what role Te Rūnanga o Ngāpuhi should play in talks, and how kaumatua and iwi members living in the cities should be represented.
They're now ready to get the technical advisors work on some concrete proposals that can be put out for consultation.
"We're not talking about who gives and takes. We're talking about what is good for Ngāpuhi so we have got some meetings set up in the north and they could possibly end up down in Auckland just as a starter to try to give out the information people are asking for, so I am happy to say it could end up in a better way than we had in the previous meetings," Mr Taylor says.
