Hui ā Rohe – Te Whānau o Waipareira
HUI-Ā-ROHE – TE WHĀNAU O WAIPAREIRA
Tēnā koutou i roto i ngā tini āhuatanga o te wā. Ka rere tonu ngā mihi ki a rātau mā kua huri ki tua o pae maumahara. Nā koutou i tangi, nā mātau i tangi, ā, mā tātau katoa e poroporoaki. Kei ngā mate, haere atu rā koutou. Tātau e whai nei ki te whakatutuki i ngā awhero me ngā maruāpō o rātau mā, kia whai hua, kia angitū ō tātau whānau, tēnā anō tātau katoa.
It might sound pithy, but of course we live in a dynamic and vastly changing society. We either have to position ourselves at the sun rise of these changes of be forever following in the shadows and the sun set.
On that basis, Māori leadership, regardless of where it is positioned, must come together and endeavour to collectivise opportunities for our people. The day of divide and rule and being played off, has to be challenged.
99.8% of all government dollars is sieved out to Māori populations by non-Māori. That leaves just 0.2% of funds goes to Māori, by Māori for Māori. In regard to local government funding – which is an $8 billion per annum powerhouse – we do not and therefore cannot participate unless we assail those that administer this massive economic resource in Auckland. To do that, we are going to have to organise far better and instead of being parochial about being from the West, South, East, North or Central. Given the Super City, it is vitally important that we organise.
On that basis, Te Whanau o Waipareira is calling this hui in an attempt to put together a coalition of the willing. Those that do not wish to participate, we accept are on different journeys and are more than likely taxed very much in just survival itself. This is acknowledged and accepted as we have been there and done that.
We look forward to you attending our hui on Monday 30 July 2018, 10am at Hoani Waititi Marae, Glen Eden. For catering purposes, please confirm your attendance ASAP to comms@numa.co.nz or contact Joseph Los’e on 0280007546 or email joseph.lose@waiwhanau.com.
