Rotorua council stalwart’s service praised
Long serving Rotorua Lakes councillor Trevor Maxwell has been honoured by Local Government New Zealand for his outstanding contribution to local government.
The award was made at the association’s annual conference in Christchurch.
Cr Maxwell has represented Rotorua Lakes Council since 1977 and was deputy mayor from 2002 until 2013.
He has made particular contributions to Māori and the arts, and as well as serving on six iwi protocol committees he is the council’s cultural ambassador,
Local Government NZ president Dave Cull says he is a role model for his community and local government.
He continues to stay involved at grass roots level as well as continuing to contribute at a high level around the council table.
