Still golden for wool champions
Shearer Rowland Smith from Maraekakaho maintained his year-long winning streak by taking the Golden Shears Open final at the weekend, shearing 20 sheep in 16 minutes 32 seconds, three seconds behind David Buick of Pongaroa but with shearing quality giving him the title.
But he missed out in the team event, with the Transtasman shearing test honours going to Australia.
Motueka-based Joel Henare also came through on the day to pick up his 100th wool handling title, comfortably beating Pagan Karauria of Alexandra.
With Maryanne Baty he went on to win the Transtasman woolhandling test for trophy 101.
