Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern received an unexpected gift at Ratana Pa today.
Welcoming the Labour leader and her Government colleagues to the hui, one of the paetapu kaikorero congratulated her on her pregnancy.
He said it's auspicious that the peepi will arrive in the movement's centenary year, and offered the middle name Waru, which refers to "Te waru o Noema, the 8th of November, when founder Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana had a vision andthe movement was created.
"And so there's our gift to you and I suppose it would seal all the deals that have been done in the past between Labour and Ratana, and this will be a remembrance from this year on, so whenever we see our mokopuna we will say 'Te Waru o Noema, Tena koe,'".
