Ako fund boosts Maori research efforts
Projects funded in the latest Ako Aotearoa National Project Fund are expected to make significant contribution to improving success for Maori and Pasifika tertiary learners.
Fund chair Dr Joe Te Rito says all five co-funded projects have the potential to build considerable capability within the sector.
Ako is going in with the Primary Industry Training Organisation on a project to build skills for young Maori to complete education and transition into the workplace in agriculture, horticulture, and forestry.
Te Tapuae o Rehua is leading the Hutia te Punga project to make professional development more culturally responsive in several South Island tertiary institutions and training bodies.
The University of Auckland has a project, He Vaka Moana, to develop a type of collaborative research fellowship for Maori and Pasifika students.
The Industry Training Federation is developing a good practice framework for literacy and numeracy programmes used in the workplace.
Victoria University of Wellington and WelTec are working together to identify excellence among educators and teaching practices that benefit Pasifika tertiary students.
