MP Jones celebrates mood of change
MPs have been sworn in this morning in preparation for the official opening of parliament tomorrow when Governor General Dame Patsy Reddy will read the speech from the throne setting out the Government's agenda.
New Zealand First MP Shane Jones delivered his maiden speech when he was first elected as a Labour MP in 2005, so he's looking forward to moving straight into his new duties as Minister for Forestry, Infrastructure and Regional Economic Development.
He says there's a real spirit of change.
"So that change has to translate into genuine political action through the crown that does positively alter the circumstances people find themselves in. That was the whole motivation certainly for myself wanting to come back into politics," Mr Jones says,
He's looking forward to working with Maori Development Minister Nanaia Mahuta and Maori/Crown Relations Minister Kelvin Davis on programmes that can improve the fortunes of young Maori.
