A Tauranga author and social entrepreneur is raising funds to get his new book to children with a parent in prison.
Tommy Kapai Wilson says he wrote When Daddy Comes Home because of what he had learned from running a trust which works with prisoners.
He says prisoners want to reconnect with their family and there is a 40 percent improvement in their chances of staying out of prison if they do that before their release.
"The opposite of addiction is connection and whether it is homelessness or our whanau inside, our people need reconnecting and the best way to do it is tamariki and their parents so this is what the book is all about. There’s an opportunity for all of us to adopt a kid with a book, $10 on a Givealittle page. We need to all step up and reconnect these tamariki with their papas," Mr Wilson says.
