Moana dubbed for Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori
Taika Waititi's Disney film Moana will screen in te reo Maori for Maori language Week, thanks to the efforts of three University of Auckland staffers.
Lecturers Katarina Edmonds and Waldo Houia from Te Puna Wananga School of Maori and Indigenous Education and the faculty's marae administrator Vikky Demant worked alongside the film's New Zealand producer Tweedie Waititi and performance director Rachel House on the project.
The popular animated movie tells the tale of a young Polynesian teenage girl who navigates the Pacific Ocean in a bid to save her island.
Ms Edmonds says the initial script took three weeks working nights, and then the trio was part of the editing process to enable duration and lip sync.
The te reo Maori version of Moana will show in theatres around the country during Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori, which kicks off on September 11.
