Fox counting on greater influence post-turmoil
Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox believes the political turmoil of the past two weeks has strengthened her party’s position in negotiations for the next government.
Both Labour and the Greens have change leaders, and while the elevation of Jacinda Ardern has helped Labour’s polling, the Greens are in disarray with the resignation of Metiria Turei.
Ms Fox says that puts the prospects of a Labour-Green coalition in doubt.
"And even though Winston (Peters) could go with National or go with (Labour) the deciding votes are going to be with the Maori Party, and that was with only two members. We know we are going to take more than two members, we are going to have four or five, so we are absolutely not pushed out of being in the kingmaker position," she says.
The Maori Party launches is election campaign at Manurewa Marae tomorrow.
