Dennis reality check for housing hui
The experiences of Maori tackling the housing crisis will be shared at a conference in Wellington next month.
Community Housing Aotearoa expects more than 200 people from community and social housing, the development community, government and local government at its IMPACT conference from June 7 to 9 .
Director Scott Figenshow says the conference will try to identify what needs to be done to end the housing crisis, including ways to grow and sustain affordable housing.
He says more households find themselves unable to transition from social rental to affordable rental and home ownership, and community providers aren't seeing enough supply of genuinely affordable homes
Te Puea Marae chair Hurimoana Dennis, who coordinated a high-profile intervention at the marae last winter, join former Treasury chief economist Girol Karacaoglu and Human Rights Commissioner David Rutherford to talk about well-being economics and the deficiencies in the current responses to housing.
