Pahauwera shepherd best for year

Jordan Biddle of Ngati Pahauwera can go back to work today on his iwi’s Pihanui Station south of Wairoa knowing he’s best in class.
The shepherd was named 2017 Ahuwhenua Young Maori Farmer Award ahead of two other 21-year old shepherds, Dylan Ruki-Fowlie of Te Atihaunui a Paparangi, who works on Tawanui Station south of Raetihi; and Hemoata Kopa of Ngapuhi, who is on on Pukemiro Station just out of Dannevirke.
Lead judge Peter Little says he exemplifies all that is good about young Maori who are making successful careers in the primary sector, demonstrating great commitment to his work andexcellent leadership that will make him a role model for other young Ma¯ori contemplating a career in agribusiness.
He says every day there are new opportunities opening up for young Maori as new land is brought into production and other land improved.
The main Ahuwhenua Trophy for excellence on Maori farming was won by Omapere Rangihamama Trust farm near Kaikohe.
