Miraka to send branded milk to Malaysia
Miraka has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with its Malaysian distribution partner, Storiiu, that clears the way for the Maori-owned milk processor to start exporting its first own-branded consumer product.
The agreement was witnessed by Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell who says, this shows Maori innovating and moving products services are up the value chain, forming long-term international partnerships and building economic value for the future.
He says investing in relationships and playing a long game is fundamental to Maori core values and this is an important part of any export strategy.
Mr Flavell is visiting Malaysia with a delegation of seven Maori companies to raise the profile of New Zealand’s food and beverage sector.
Malaysia’s total food and beverage sales are forecast to grow to around US$21 billion in the next three years.
The mission also includes Kahungunu Asset Holding Company, Fonterra, Maori Kiwifruit Growers Forum, Zespri and manuka honey producer Watson & Son Ltd.
