Wairoa is going bilingual.
Wairoa District Council has agreed to develop and promote te reo Maori throughout the organisation, with the goal of becoming fully bilingual by 2040.
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says it's the kind of community-led initiative that will help create the right environment for the further use of the Maori language.
Otaki and Rotorua are also talking about becoming bilingual.
