Owners in control of Waihi dairy farm

Te Tumu Paeroa is handing back control of a large Waihi dairy farm to its more than 2000 owners.
Since 1989 the Maori Trustee has been the responsible trustee for Te Aroha Aggregation, which combines two blocks into a 485 hectare farm.
Improvements made over the past three years included upgrading the dairy shed and effluent pond, building new staff lodgings and fencing waterways.
Te Tumu Paeroa also supported owners and trustees to develop skills and experience in governance so they can manage the enterprise.
Advisory trustee and owner Brad Tatere says the farm is in a strong financial position and owners are now looking at further development, as well as opportunities in other sectors.
Maori Trustee Jamie Tuuta says Te Tumu Paeroa wants owners to be actively involved in decision making for their whenua, and Te Aroha Aggregation is an example.
The farm is holding an open day on Saturday to celebrate the transition.
