STEM option for charter schools

The Government has widened the scope of its partnership school-kura hourua programme as it goes into the fifth round of applications.
In the initial rounds applicants needed to demonstrate a focus on priority learners – Maori, Pasifika, students from low socio-economic backgrounds, and students with special education needs.
Education under-secretary David Seymour says this time applicants can also choose to focus on science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, known as STEM.
He also wants to hear from tertiary education institutes interested in sponsoring partnership schools.
The approved applicants will open their schools in 2019.
