Callaghan’s Rolleston steps sideways for Crone
Hemi Rolleston’s time running the government’s technology commercialisation agency Callaghan Innovation is coming to an end, with unsuccessful Auckland mayoral candidate Vic Crone set to take over as chief executive at the end of the month.
Ms Crone is a former New Zealand managing director of software company Xero, and previously worked for Chorus and Telecom NZ.
Mr Rolleston stepped in as interim chief executive last July when the agency’s first chief executive, Mary Quin, resigned.
He will go into a new role as general manager of sectors, Maori economy and programmes.
The agency says during his time at the top he implemented significant initiatives to increase Callaghan's responsiveness to customers.
A review of Callaghan by former Commerce Commission head Dame Paula Rebstock published in December said its original hierarchical management model was no longer working, but its Maori enterprise unit was effective in working with innovative Maori businesses.
