Poto Williams changes tack on Jackson

Christchurch East MP Poto Williams has backed off her criticism of new Labour Party recruit Willie Jackson.
After the high profile broadcaster and former Alliance MP announced his intention to seek a place on the party list, Ms Williams posted on social media that as the party’s spokesperson on women and family violence she was concerned because of his on-air statements during the Roastbusters controversy three years ago.
That earned her a dressing down in caucus from leader Andrew Little, and a meeting with Mr Jackson on Wednesday night.
She said she had a robust and honest conversation about the concerns she had raised, and she believes his apology is genuine.
She acknowledged the work of his Manukau Urban Maori Authority in its Violence Free programmes and she looked forward to visiting them and seeing the work they do for the community.
