Maori monitoring new deputy PM
Green MP Marama Davidson says Maori have a right to call new Deputy Prime Minister Paula Bennett to account when her policies run counter to their interests.
Mrs Bennet was confirmed in the post this morning, and in her first post-caucus press conference with new Prime Minister Bill English she acknowledged she was proud of her Maori heritage.
Ms Davidson says many Maori don‘t feel that in her handling of ministerial portfolios she has taken their needs into account.
"Her responses to the homelessness and housing crisis which Maori are far too featured in , in my opinion have not been satisfactory and have been all about the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff emergency and rather than trying to stop more people from becoming homeless in the first place," says Marama Davidson.
