Shearer Sudan post could trigger election

There could be an election soon on the other side of the aisle if Labour’s David Shearer is confirmed to head the United Nations peace keeping mission in South Sudan.
The Mount Albert MP has been in New York to discuss the role with UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, and is now awaiting approval from the Security Council.
Labour leader Andrew Little says as Labour’s consumer affairs spokesperson Mr Shearer showed his concern for low income New Zealanders, but his passion is for international affairs and aid work.
He says Labour is ready for a by-election, but it may not come to that.
"It may well be a by-election in which case we have proven we are set up and ready to go. It may be a reason why a new prime minister might call an early election which would mean a mid-winter election, I wouldn't rule that out, but either way we are ready to go," Mr Little says
