Henare takes balanced view of MTV turmoil
Tamaki Makaurau MP Peeni Henare says he’s keen to meet with Maori Television management about the effect of planned restructuring .. . but he will also keep talking with the kaimahi affected.
The service has bristled over criticism of planned redundancies in the production and programming areas, and invited inspection from both Mr Henare and Labour’s other broadcasting spokesperson, Clare Curran.
He says he’ll organise a meeting when he is able.
"I talk to quite a number of the people there. People are hurting, there are going to be job losses and I think it's important that I weigh up both of those things, both of those opinions and the messages that are coming from both sides and I would be more than happy to meet with (chief executive) Paora (Maxwell), the board, (chairperson) Georgina (te Heuheu) anyone from the management team that they think I should meet with," says Peeni Henare.
