RMA reforms bogged down in paper
Legislation overhauling the Resource Management Act is likely to be delayed further with Environment Minister Nick Smith telling the Business Desk news service he intends to send it back to the select committee for more work.
The Government is relying on support from the Maori Party to pass the bill, at the cost of giving iwi more say in some planning decisions.
The bill is due to be reported back to parliament next week, but the Local Government and Environment select committee hasn’t finished its report
That’s because it only received the 500-page final version of the officials' report this morning.
Green MP Eugenie Sage says many of the changes are driven by ideology rather than robust analysis and evidence.
