Tuhoronuku delays transition talks

Talks aimed at putting Ngapuhi’s treaty claim negotiations back on the rails have hit a bump before they even start, with mandated body Tuhoronuku calling off today’s first session.
Chair Hone Sadler says crown facilitator Nigel Fyfe refused to allow Tuhoronuku to make its acceptance of the proposed Maranga Mai framework conditional.
That contrasts with the treatment given to Te Kotangaitanga o Nga Hapu o Ngapuhi, which was allowed to reserve its position on some aspects of the report.
As Maranga Mai is light on the details of how some of its proposals will be put into action, it’s hard to see what unqualified acceptance could mean.
