RSA appoints kaumatua
As the Returned Services Association celebrates its centenary, it has formally created the position of Kaumatua.
The role has gone to Vietnam veteran and former Te Karere and Waka Huia reporter Ronald Miki Apiti, who has been serving as the organisation’s Maori services representative.
National president BJ Clarke says Mr Apiti will give the RSA guidance on tikanga Maori issues such as the repatriation of the bodies of servicemen killed in Malaysia and Vietnam, which the Veteran’s Advisory Board is currently considering.
