Maori factored in to trade policy refresh
Trade Minister Todd McClay has met with Iwi Leaders Forum to discuss the refresh of the government's trade policy strategy.
The government came under fire from the Waitangi Tribunal for failing to properly consult Maori over the Trans Pacific partnership.
Mr McLay says last week’s meeting in Rotorua was the sixth such meeting this year.
He says while the current strategy has served the country well over the past 20 years in securing market access, the refresh is looking at factors that will shape future trade policy efforts.
Maori are central to the New Zealand export story as they own between 10 and 30 per cent of meat and dairy, and around 40 per cent of both forestry and fisheries.
