Iwi protest for consultation on Horowhenua cenotaph

An iwi-led protest has forced Horowhenua District Council to reconsider plans to move the Foxton Cenotaph.
The council received a petition with more than 1000 signatures from iwi.
The site for the memorial was originally gifted by Maori.
Chief executive David Clapperton says the council has agreed it needs to consult more broadly on its plans to redesign the town centre.
Iwi spokesperson Robert Ketu the area has significant ancestral history for Maori.
