Harawira demands Taipari resign

Mana leader Hone Harawira says Auckland Maori Statutory Board chair David Taipari should stand down because of what he says is the way he failed to protect waahi tapu in the super city.
Mr Taipari stepped aside from the final consideration of the city’s Unitary Plan after council officials recommended a schedule of more than 2000 sites of value to Maori be retained in the 7000 page document.
The full council rejected the advice, meaning a plan change will be needed to ensure landowners are automatically notified if their plans affect a site.
Mr Harawira, whose former Te Taitokerau seat includes about a third of the super city, says that was a failure of leadership.
"So when he rolled over and allowed council to throw out all the authorities Maori had over their waahi tapu, he was completely wrong, and for that, if for no other reason somebody's head should roll, and if he's the chairman it should be him," he says.
