Charlton guided PKW growth
A Taranaki accountant is being mourned for the contribution he made to Maori in the province.
Peter Charlton, who died last week, was the chair of Parininihi Ki Waitotara Incorproation for 20 yearsl.
He also chaired the Federation of Maori Authorities for some years.
Dion Tuuta, who succeeded Mr Charlton at PKW, says during his time the organisation's assets grew from $5million to $250 million, with interests in dairying, crayfish exports, commercial property interests, venture capital and international investments.
He also fought for changes to the legislation covering Maori reserved land that put shackles on PKW's core land-based assets.
He was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2010 for his services to the community.
