Early election pick from Flavell
Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell is picking the country could go to the polls early.
The party’s annual meeting at the weekend was focussed what it needs to do for next year’s election.
It’s new president Tukoroirangi Morgan is already trying to find an accommodation with Mana leader Hone Harawira that could stop the anti-Labour vote in the Maori seats being split.
Mr Flavell says on past form Prime Minister John Key isn’t afraid to go early.
"It’s very much going to depend on the wairua of the country. Elections and political parties are guided by polls and if the polls are good why would you not go early to secure your mandate a little bit earlier when everything is right, is fresh. How early, I have no idea. That is in the hands of the Prime Minister. He makes the call," he says.
