Whanau Ora lessons shared

South Island Whanau Ora providers have gathered in Christchurch to share their experiences and innovations.
Helen Leahy from the South Island commissioning agency Te Putahitanga o Te Waipounamu says the agency and its providers use a results-based accountability framework, so they are constantly looking at how they are helping whanau grow in strength and resilience.
She says unlike other models of social service delivery, providers try to complement each other rather than compete for the limited funding streams.
"When an issue comes up, say for instance the prevention of family harm through violence, you are wanting to work together with police, with Social Development, with Education, with Health. That is why Whanau Ora is absolutely unique to that integrated approach," Ms Leahy says.
A conference for North Island Whanau Ora providers will be held in Auckland next Monday and Tuesday.
