Crime summit too soft for Korako

Crime summit too soft for Korako
National's Māori spokesperson says Māori should be worried this week's Criminal Justice Summit will lead to softer sentencing and bail laws.
Nuk Korako says the guest list shows the Government only invited people who already agree with it, rather than listening to victims.
He says the 5000 Māori in prison are a small percentage of the total Māori population.
"A lot of our Māori in the prisons are violent offenders. Who are the victims? They are actually Māori. So if we are going to soften these laws, we are going to be on the receiving end of that I believe," Mr Korako says.
