True history call from peace hikoi
About 100 hardy walkers have covered the steps along the Taranaki coast from Oakura to Okato for day two of the peace hikoi to Parihaka.
Radio Waatea reporter Kura Ratapu says last night the group broke into smaller discussion groups and as New Plymouth mayor Andrew Judd promised, the conversations took place.
Among key issues raised were teaching the true history of Taranaki in mainstream schools, how Pakeha fit into the Maori language strategy, and providing workshops and support for Pakeha as they continue along a pathway of discovery.
There's more discussion to continue this evening as the group reflect and devise new strategies.
Tomorrow they being the final leg of the journey to Parihaka.
