Latimer team always up to challenge
A long serving member of the New Zealand Maori Council says she has never worked with anyone more dedicated to the cause of Maori than Sir Graham Latimer.
Sir Graham died yesterday at his home in Pamapuria near Kaitaia after a long illness with Parkinson’s disease.
Titewhai Harawira says no matter the kaupapa, Sir Graham would take it on board and consider whether it would open doors for Maori.
The council also benefited from the support he got from his wife, Lady Emily Latimer, who died last year.
"She was the strength, always committed 24-seven to support his kaupapa and whatever the challenges were and there were many from our people, I hope they have time to reflect on the challenges they made," Mrs Harawira says.
She says the New Zealand Maori Council is still struggling to find its way after Sir Graham’s quiet but firm leadership.
